That is probably true and it's always good to have more sophisticated
options, but most other major platforms, including Solaris, OS X
Server, MS Windows, and even Red Hat, to some extent, seem to be
standardizing around LDAP for backend authentication. The linux based
distros are the only ones not really onboard yet (okay "standardizing"
doesn't really descibe what MS is doing).
