Question for those using an ATI AGP-(specifically the Radeon 9200)

Hello all, I have a question about my ATI Radeon 9200
128mb AGP. It took me the better part of a day to get
the ATI drivers installed AND to get linux to use
those instead of the mesa drivers. I never did manage
to get the newest driver package from ATI to load, it
would install but when I ran fglrxinfo it still showed
the vesa drivers as being loaded. Eventuall I
stumbled upon this link:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=24557
and finally managed to get ATI drivers to install AND
load, though it should be pointed out that simply
restarting X was not enough to load them, a reboot was
required - I assume that simply restarting X did not
load the modules whereas the reboot did, and this is
why it works now.
Now my question is about the framerate, because I am
still showing really low numbers here. When I run
glxgears, I get results averaging the following:

3569 frames in 5.0 seconds = 713.800 FPS
3630 frames in 5.0 seconds = 726.000 FPS

And when I run fgl_glxgears, I get the following:
608 frames in 5.0 seconds = 121.600 FPS
670 frames in 5.0 seconds = 134.000 FPS

Does this seem low to anyone else? The other ATI
users who I have seen reporting results from these
commands have much much higher framrates, like up into
the 2000 - 2500 range, but I have not acctually seen
anyone who is running the 9200 - they are all results
from later model cards, so this could be normal for my
card.

Does anyone acctually use the same ATI card as me, and
if so which drivers and what framerates do you get
from it? I may just have something turned off or
configured improperly, so I would like to compare
notes with another user.
Thanks in advance,
SMH
