i810 driver and virtual console

Just upgraded my Breezy system on my Dell C.400 laptop. I hit a problem
if I switch from GUI mode to console mode using control-alt-f1. Upon
trying to return to GUI mode with alt-F7, the screen slowly turns white
(creeping in from the bottom left-hand corner and then turns purple! I
would guess that something is writing all over the video memory! Only
way out of it si to reboot the system, as far as I can tell.

Anyone else seen this problem?
