having acquired much much scar tissue in a previous life dealing with
LDAP and authentication, has it become simple enough yet to just turn on
LDAP, enter usernames and passwords and have it just work? If it isn't
a 30 minute task, that means it's only worth while when you have a very
large network. If it's 30 minutes, then heck, I'll run it at home with
four or five machines in the network.
I'm also asking because I have a customer where it's probably worth
spending a half a day doing the conversion to LDAP because it will get
them away from active directory. But if I go much more than half a day,
the attitude will be "why change, it works most of the time."
and by the way, all the recipes I've found for making samba work with
active directory don't work. It's really annoying especially when they
don't give you any pointers on how to debug problems on the Windows side.
