Localisation and Fonts

When I log in an check .xsession-errors,  I see this at the top.

Xsession: X session started for andy at Sat Oct  8 15:09:47 EDT 2005
xset:  bad font path element (#69), possible causes are:
    Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
    Incorrect font server address or syntax
startkde: Starting up...
kbuildsycoca running...


And then KDE starts.  I think this is related to another problem I am
having on breezy.
I have reconfigured locales, fontconfg, etc.  What else do I need to do?
