Best equipment/method for creating home wireless network?

1) Don't use theirs if you can avoid it.  I imagine you can't hack it
(legally) and it'll cost much more than it's worth.

2) get a Linksys WRT54G and install any 3rd party firmware on it (I'm
running sveasoft Talisman, but there are good OSS options too).  Then
you're running a Linux router without the overhead of having to use a PC -
and you can still modify the linux OS on the router.

That's the normal operation with any wireless router.
