ifconfig idea

Wouldnt be dificult at all.

You will probably need to parse network definition file its either
under /etc/network or /etc/networking on most Debian like systems, or
/etc/sysconfig/network-script/ on fedora...  I dont remember exactly
but all information on network you will need will be in there.

Go from there... There is also a daemon (dont remember the name) that
will check if the network cable is plugged in or not and perform an
action on those events. This is probably what you want.
