ifconfig idea

Would it be difficult to build a script that when your do an
ifconfig $ifnum up
that it checks to see if the machine is setup to be static or DCHP and
if it's set to DHCP then it will automatically to a
dhclient $ifnum
?
This would be useful for my laptop and some of the network hopping I
do sometimes.
