I don't usualy use graphical tools like gedit for quick fixes like this.
Sometimes they struggle. I would just do this.
cd /boot/grub
ls To make sure you are in the right directory.
sudo nano menu.lst This is a pico clone if you've ever used pico/pine. It's
easy to use.
