ipw2200 and GPSD

I've been having some rather annoying problems with GPSD and my ipw2200 
driver that seem to be caused my ACPI.  Any time I run GPSD and connect 
with either kismet or gpsdrive, my wireless works for a bit, and then 
dies.  The interface stops working, and I get dmesg errors about how 
sending commands to the device failed.  I can unload and reload the 
modules, ipw2200, firmware_class, ieee80211, etc. etc. but to no avail.  
If I run acpi=off then I don't have a single problem with the interface 
and GPSD.  The problem is, with acpi, the battery, temperature, and cpu 
freq monitor don't work at all.  Hopefully it's something I'm doing.
