Yes, and Yes. It would also help if I knew what version of Ubuntu you have
and what your processor is.


The quick explanation. Download the JRE bin from Sun that is compatible with
your processor. Download it to somewhere nice, and change it's permissions
so it is recognized as an executable. Then, run it under sudo.
