you can trick it into running a custom program by setting the
default/preferred web browser or mail reader to the program you want to
run, then the corresponding hotkey will run the program you want it to. 
here's an example that i'm using on my machine, because
control-alt-delete doesn't do anything on linux machines, but i'd like
it to behave similarly to the way it does it windows:

system>preferences>preferred applications... mail reader...custom
command: _gnome-system-monitor_ ... close...
system>preferences>keyboard shortcuts... (click on Email) (press
ctrl-alt-del)... close

voila!  hope that's helpful, though it's 3 months late...
