Cannot load up graphical desktop

To supply more info:
I have tried logging in with the "session" changed from "last" to
"failsafe gnome" and "default gnome". "Default gnome" gives the same
effect as if I hadn't changed the "session" type. "Failsafe gnome" won't
work at all.
