Nero InCD Equivalent for UBUNTU?

Would one be able to open a rewriteable optical disk with an UDF
filesystem in a freshly installed system (no additional software
installed) and just use the disk? This would be something I have dreamed
of for the last two years (ever since I started using Linux :) It would
be even better than in Windows, where you have to install software (like
InCD, which alex mentioned and which I used to use too).
