Frankly I like the idea of just an installer program and then
downloading exactly what you want. This avoids downloading packages
(contained on the ISO) that end up needing immediate update (security
upgrades, bug fixes). It makes the initial installation of them redundant.
If download just an installer that properly configures your sources.list
file, you'll only be downloading a given package once. And you also
have more options, mirror-wise as not all mirrors carry the CDs.
I get as close as I can to this with the "server install" option when
setting Ubuntu up, but I've still downloaded the entire 600mb+ CD image
to accomplish this.
Nevertheless, I do think only having one CD vs 3-5 is good. You get hte
same packages either way. It's download them now or later. :-)
