I'm having the same problem, and I've opened a bug:

What platform are you running? My system is PowerPC. (Actually if you
have ANY level of expertise, please contribute to the bug report so
maybe we can figure it out faster.)

By the way, I do have a workaround ... you can open a terminal window
and issue this command to swich to virtual console 1:

sudo chvt 1

and once you're in any of the virtual consoles EXCEPT VT7 you can
switch among them using the Ctrl-Alt-Fn sequence. (For some reason X
is grabbing those key codes and not passing them where they need to
go.)
