[Breezy v5.10] HP ljet 1200 drivers and sharing over samba

I have a HP Laserjet 1200 connected via parallel port to a Breezy
box, and am having 2 problems with printing.

system->administration->printing->new printer detected the printer
and it's installed.

The first problem is chosing which driver to use. Postscript or
not? Which is better and why? Then there are multiple choices once
you make that decision. [1] below are the results of me testing all
of them.

I've chosen HP(HPLIP) Laserjet 1200 hpijs for now.

The second problem is sharing this thing via samba. I've added it
to smb.conf [2] below is extract from smb.conf. printuser is a user
I created both with adduser and smbpasswd. The idea is that this
should save me entering all users' names.

When installing the printer on the WinXP Pro clients, it asks for
username and password, so give it the details for printuser, click
remember password. But when clients reboot it seems to forget that.
Also, client test page prints come out with errors and jibberish.

The Windows drivers only give a choice of 2 - HP Laserjet 1200
Series PCL and HP Laserjet 1200 PS (MS). I chose the first,
although it doesn't seem to be working.

Any help appreciated on the above. I can't think of any other
relevant info to provide.
