Odd X freeze on Hoary

My wife's machine, currently running a fully up to date hoary, has
experienced an odd freeze. The machine continues to function, you can
log in via ssh, etc, what ever task it was doing, continues to work
(latest time was recording sound via audacity) but no kbd events are
processed by X. Ctrl alt backspace works, shutting off X, as do caps
lock and other like keys, mouse pointer moves around fine, but no mouse
clicks are registered by X. Restart X, and all is well.

Hoary, with Xorg, running nvidia card, with the OSS xv driver. Any ideas
of where to look for more info? X log has nothing that seems to be of
relevance.

Kat says that a similar freeze happened under Warty, with XF86, so I
don't know what the deal is.
Std ps2 kbd, with a USB wireless mouse. It acts as if focus has been
stolen by something that won't let go, for alt-tab, whatever, or mouse
clicks. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.
