Unresolved Dependency Problems

I try to install ubuntu-base, for example, (I'm in Synaptic) "Could not mark 
all packages for installation..." because following unresolvable 
dependencies:
libc6-i686 but it is not going to be installed
locales "                                                       "

Locales depends on glibc-2.3.2.ds1-20ubuntu13
Libc6-i686 "PreDepends: libc6 (=2.3.2.ds1-20ubuntu13) but 2.3.2.ds1-22 is to 
be installed.

Everything seems screwed up. What can I do?
