That's _because_  you "don't normally use Linux on the desktop".  The 
difference is considerable.

That is useful information.  It would mean that a full version of KDE can be 
installed without any Gnome "dross" (nobody _really_ needs 15 text 
editors :-)  )

That "poorly" is what I complained of.  I think the poster would now be better
