Mac OS X has a speech "service" which allows you to do this in almost 
any application, and there is also a command-line version provided, 
with flags to read from a textfile &/or output to aiff.

I've never heard of anyone using it more than once or twice - festival 
may be a chunk better, and I haven't played with the settings, but you 
can read much quicker than you can listen.
