ubuntu-users Digest, Vol 9, Issue 125

I've tried "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and followed all the step but
it does not give me what I exactly want . The resolution is still
600x480 :( . As robitaille told before , it's no way to use Ubuntu in
the intel 846G chipset with 1204x768 resolution ?

now, the down side of this story :)

If you want to read more on why this is not turned on by default in
Hoary, these 2 bug reports have more detail:

https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7565
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5696

But since "it works for me" (tm) without any obvious side effects that
I can see/hear, that option has been turned on for my Hoary machine
since January.

So your notebook is able to see the AP?! In case of doubt, try

That's rather strange.. *.252??? You could try and have a look in
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and/or the man page(s) (man dhclient) whether
you can specify the subnetmask..

But fist, you should try bring up your interface with a static IP first
and see whether you connect fine. From my experience something's wrong
with the connection if you don't get an ip from a dhcp. Do also check
whether the AP is able to see you (check the AP's logs..)

That's maybe cause you don't have an ip yet..?!

Ok. How much have you looked at the patch? If you are unsure as to how
it works or a possible way to build it, in terms of making it modules or

directly into the kernel, I would be happy to help you.

if you use "sudo", then the password that command expects is your user
password, not the root password. I suspect it is the same "problem"
with the root terminal.

before you try to change this file by hand, have you tried:
 sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

This is actually a bug in the xorg code that will be fixed in Breezy
later this week, and will probably find its way into hoary-updates at
some point.

if it is a gdm problem, maybe the error or problem would show up in one
of the log files in /var/log/gdm
