[Hoary] strange sound problem

now, the down side of this story :)

If you want to read more on why this is not turned on by default in
Hoary, these 2 bug reports have more detail:

But since "it works for me" (tm)  without any obvious side effects that
I can see/hear, that option has been turned on for my Hoary machine
since January.
