There are no such things as stupid questions. But if you had searched
the forums you would have found more about this topic.
menu and menu-xdg are the ones that put the debian menu there. So if
you don't need these packages remove them to make sure the debian menu
won't haunt you anymore :).
"sudo apt-get remove menu menu-xdg" only if this doesn't remove any
applications that you need
go search for the debian menu in your ~/.local and ~./config
directories and remove it from there. After this do "sudo killall
gnome-panel" and I think the debian menu isn't there anymore.
