Floppy problems

Hi all,
I am having problems accessing my floppy drive.
It's not possible to write to it, I can see files on a floppy disk
but if I right click a file , the file disappears.
Can end up with what appears to be an empty floppy, but
If I close the folder in Nautilus and re- open it the file is back, but
cannot open it(file), or copy it. The files are all png's. Double 
clicking files do nothing.
A blank floppy behaves the same, can't write to it. I am doing some
knoppix screen shots on an old machine, and and taking them back and 
forth to
this machine.

I am confused about there being 2  floppy's,  floppy-> floppy0
then another line with floppy0, can't set the permissions on the second 
line.
If I try to chmod floppy0 as root, it only changes the one in the 
floppy->floppy0 line

All files appear in both floppy and floppy0

chown results in:
root at squareyes:/media # chown -R squareyes floppy0

chown: changing ownership of `floppy0/read.png': Operation not permitted

 From command line I managed to copy above files from floppy to Desktop, 
so files do exist on the floppy.
A png made with the Gimp, tried to save to floppy, gives "Could not open 
'media/floppy0/xyz.png
for writing:permision denied" Dragging and dropping same result "no 
permission"
Am a novice at command line, trial and error aren't giving me the 
desired results,
could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.
