Yeah, probably an alsa misbehaving thing.  The best way to fix it is to
execute 'alsactl save'  Next time you boot alsa's init script runs
alsactl restore which puts the settings back.  Its supposed to do the
save on shutdown, but I don't know why it doesn't.
