Status of python-kde3

I'm trying to run lsongs as installed from the Mandrake RPM. Apparently
lsongs is written in python 2.4 and requires a module named 'kdecore'
which, I assume, is part of the python-kde3 package.

Unfortunately, the python-kde3 package won't install as it appears to
still rely on python 2.3.

Is there a newer version somewhere I can install or, conversely, does
anyone have an idea when this package will be updated?
