Hoary live CD fails on laptop

I do not have a solution but have the same exact problem. Plain
gateway e-2000. I 'm an extra-virgin newbie but I have done five
downloads and 15 burns at every speed. Bing. Same deadend. Did 1x
and different batch. Nothing worked. Maybe someone will post a
possible solution/work around. I have found no information.
