workspace switching?

I'm sure there is hundreds of answers to this question and what works
for one user will not work for another.

In my case the day I realized that I never use any of the function
keys in linux is when I started using them for my workspaces:  f1, f2,
f3, etc.  Less typing and quite easy to remember.
