Very slow CD ripping with sound-juicer

It's version 2.10.0.  I'm not sure if i downloaded the .1 or .2 CD, it
was a fresh download this afternoon.. plus apt-get update && apt-get
dist-upgrade shows no updates so i'm assuming it's the latest.

Upon closer inspection, i've noticed that it's only my DVD drive that
rips slowly.. my burner rips at the regular speed. (which by the way,
has always been slow, around 2.2 - 2.4x.  I'm not sure of the drive
speed but i'm certain it's faster than that..)

I've also tried copying some files off of the install CD, and it runs
normally when copying from a data CD..
