Hoary Array 6: "non-printable characters" in the mdadm manual page

With man mdadm the "-" character could not displayed. There is a "block" instead
of a "-". I compare the mdadm and the grub manual page with zless and see, that
the grub page conaining "\-\-" and this is displayed correctly. The mdadm page
containing "--". Im using LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and keymap german. This situation
appears in the console tty*.
