Hardware support

I've just purchased a new machine with an ASUS P5GD1-VM motherboard. The
board has an integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics system and a RealTek ALC
861 high definition audio system.

I've installed Warty, and the graphics works (mostly) with the vesa
driver, but there does not seem to be a i830 or i915 driver. By mostly,
the screen becomes all jumbled when moving the mouse around on the GDM
login screen!

The sound also does not work. The alsa system complain no cards found
when booting up.

I've tried the Hoary live CD, which also picked the vesa driver for the
graphics and there was also no sound.

Can anyone point me in the direction of suitable drivers for these
devices? Preferably a .deb package, if possible. I could have a go at
building from source, but I don't feel too confident about doing that.

Or are these devices likely to be fully supported in a future release of
Ubuntu, and if so can anybody tell me which one, hazard a guess?

Oh, I get the following messages when I boot up:

Mar 7 19:48:28 localhost kernel: PNPBIOS fault.. attempting recovery.
Mar 7 19:48:28 localhost kernel: PnPBIOS: Warning! Your PnP BIOS caused
a fatal error. Attempting to continue
Mar 7 19:48:28 localhost kernel: PnPBIOS: You may need to reboot with
the "nobiospnp" option to operate stably
Mar 7 19:48:28 localhost kernel: PnPBIOS: Check with your vendor for an
updated BIOS
Mar 7 19:48:28 localhost kernel: PnPBIOS: get_dev_node: unexpected
status 0x28

but I'm not sure this has any effect!

All help greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Tony.
