Difference: Hoary LiveCD <> upgraded Warty

Hi everyone,
I don't understand why there are fundamental differences between a
continuously upgraded warty installation and the hoary array 6 live cd I
tried recently.
My digital camera is recognized as soon as I plug it in (I don't have to
start gphoto --import-photos by hand), my cd writer is recognized in
nautilus-cd-burner and so on.
What can I do to get the same results in my upgraded hoary installation?
Do I have to run some kind of script like the base-config one, in order
to reconfigure hoary to my hardware?
