I have been having difficulties installing nvidia drivers under hoary.
I previously had the *6629 version working under warty, but it broke
when I did a dist-upgrade. I have since done a fresh install of warty,
changed all menu.lst references to hoary, and done an update and full
dist-upgrade.

Following advice from Ubuntu discussion boards, I have avoided the
6629 drivers as I use an old Riva TNT card. So I am attemting to
install drivers 1.0-6111 (using the nvidia installer program from
their site NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run
). I have ensure that I have correct linux-sources, linux headers and
build-essential packages. All match the current kernel version:

root at sam:/ # echo `uname -r`
2.6.10-4-386

The installer builds a new kernel interface to match my kernel, but
then throws the following:

"WARNING: your kernel was configured to include rivafb support as a
loadable kernel module...conflicts with the nvidia driver..." How do I
remove/disable this module?

"ERROR: unable to load kernel module 'nvidia.ko' .... this is probably
because it was built using the wrong kernel source files...make sure
you have installed the correct kernel source files....specify path
with --kernel-source-path"
To the best of my knowledge, everything does match up, and it is
finding it on the path. Any suggestions? I am not sure what other
information would be useful here.

root at sam:/ # ls -l /usr/src
total 36600
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root src        18 2005-03-03 23:21 linux -> linux-2.6.10-4-386
drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 2005-03-02 23:26 linux-headers-2.6.10-4
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 2005-03-04 00:04
linux-headers-2.6.10-4-386-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 37421103 2005-03-02
06:56 linux-source-2.6.10.tar.bz2
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 2005-03-01 23:42 rpm

p.s. a friend suggested I add the symlink to linux, but it doesn't
appear to need/want this
