nforce sound issues and new user Linux questions

I don't think that's your problem. I have the same M/B as you (MSI
K7N42O Pro), lspci returns exactly the same info, and sound works
perfectly and out of the box, both with Warty and whatever flavor of
Hoary. I do have problems with the nForce Ethernet controller though,
but AFAICR, it wasn't working in Win XP either, so chances are it's a
H/W Problem, and it was defective the day I bought it ! :-/
