high CPU utilization

this is ridiculous

this an up-to-date hoary.

same thing, same apps running on my laptop running debian unstable shows
a 2% CPU usage average, which used to be the case on this computer a few
days ago as well.

This causes my desktop to be _very_ slow...

am the only one?? what can look at to define what's wrong?
