gnome-terminal doesn't gain focus when I switch to it

Hmm. I've been playing with this more, and the problem is
actually different and broader than I had thought:

1) It's not just gnome-terminal. Akregator does the same
thing. Firefox does not.

2) The trouble is that Firefox, at least, is 'always on
top.' I can't get gnome-terminal and akregator to come in
front of Firefox. Though gnome-terminal does, in fact, get
the focus. It just doesn't come to the front.

3) I don't think Firefox is the trouble; it hasn't been
upgraded in a while.

4) If I minimize Firefox, I can alt-tab between akregator
and gnome-terminal with no problem.
