Upgrade from Debian stable to Hoary and group membership problems.

Wrong way. This way you don't have Ubuntu and you don't have Debian. You
should use pining (/etc/apt/preferences). It would upgrade/downgrade all
packages to Ubuntu version.

Check /etc/group and search for your username. If the username isn't in
the supplementary groups, then something went wrong with instalation. If
the username is in all supplementary groups, then something else is
wrong.
