Weird installation problem (freezing)

did you try booting with the framebuffer disabled?
use the option:
debian-installer/framebuffer=false
when booting...
if you look in the help on the install cd
there is the example how to use that.
I don't have a cd handy to try, but boot off it
and help is either F1 or F2.
