ubuntu a desktop OS?

Ubuntu is just a Linux Distribution. It contains some software that the
developers decided to include so that it could fit onto a single cd.
Since Ubuntu is basically Linux, it can run as efficiently as FC1 (more
efficiently, because Ubuntu is lighter)

I think you only have to download Squid from the net, All the other
software required for the server is already on the cd.
And yes, you can use Ubuntu as a server without any problems
