loop-AES and ubuntu

It is my understanding that loop-aes is better cryptographically than
dm-crypt, but dm-crypt is easier to implement. dm-crypt is included in
stock kernels, while loop-aes requires a recompiled kernel. Also,
loop-aes has a highly optimised AES implementation so may give higher
performance.

See http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkCrypto#Filesystem for more
info and links to yet more detail.

I have got dm-crypt working, using the ubuntu wiki, but I would still
like to get loop-aes working. However I have not yet. I've tried the
usual package, but that won't build. I've tried downloading versions
directly from sourceforge, but that didn't help either - for a start it
didn't like the split of kernel source and kernel headers.

Has anyone got loop-aes to compile on ubuntu?
