Help installing HP PSC 1610 in Ubuntu

Hi,

I was trying to make my HP PSC 1610 work in Ubuntu without success. I
try first downloading the drivers and software fron repositories with
apt-get but it doesn't works, I send the test page to print but seems
that the job gets waiting forever.

Then I read in http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/install.php, download the
sorce code for the driver and follow the instructions, when I look for
/etc/init.d/hplip I don't found nothing with hplip and trying to use
http://localhost:631 says Administrative tasks have been disabled for
security reasons. Please use Menu System > Administration > Printing.
after trying root and my account without success.

Anyone was able to make this printer work with scaner support as well
under Ubuntu? Can anyone point me or give me directions to install and
be able to use it because I cannot figure out were could be my problem
if I'm doing everything that is telled in the docs I was reading. Thanks
in advance.
