Newbie alert!

I hope this is the right place to ask - apologies if not!

I have installed kubuntu under Microsoft Virtual PC under Windows XP. I 
had a bit of a problem with the graphics, but the website helped me out 
with that!

My problem now is that as soon as the sound starts it crashes and then 
disables itself. The error message says that /dev/dsp is missing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
