Hello everyone,
I am new to Ubuntu but familiar with linux. I am doing a project here in
India to enable poor people to get access to computers. Since i need a
low-cost stable OS (ie, Linux), I zeroed in on Ubuntu.
What turns off most newbies (as in, newbies to computers) from Linux is
the perceived lack of multimedia support after installation.(Yes i do
know about the licensing thingy).
What the desktop users (of this category) want is desktop distrib which
can play some multimedia, some games with the office and internet
applications.
I am planning to make my own distro, based on Ubuntu with the above
mentioned differences (and only a single cd)
I plan to take out sendmail, cron, etc..make an idiot-proof installer.
In this way i will sacrifice easy of use for flexibility, but this is
what is needed here and in probably many more places around the world.
And yes, add Indian language support too (from the IndLinux project).
Any suggestions, critcisms and advice in good faith are welcome.
