Power Management/ Fan and hard drive osillation

I also have a Dell Latitude D600 which runs WinXP SP2 and I have not 
experienced any of the fan/hard drive issues you speak of using the 
Windows OS. I have not installed ubuntu on this particular machine. 
Still, I wonder if you have a hardware problem...
