missing usb_storage in Hoary

Are you using Ubuntu?  Do you have your own Kernel compiled by yourself?
In a default Ubuntu system, "usb-storage" *is* included.

If you have Ubuntu but for any reason "usb-storage" is missing from your
system, re-install the package "linux-image"ยน and it should fix you
problem.

If that didn't help, re-post here again.
