Suddenly can't sync with gpilotd

gpilot was working like a charm for me for a couple of weeks, and all
of a sudden, whenever I try to hotsync, I get a Warning from gpilotd
that says "The base directory" and nothing else, and the PDA thinks
the Hotsync operation was successful, but it hasn't synchronized.
Googling turns up a couple other complaints of the same thing, but no
solutions. A complete removal and reinstall didn't help. Has anyone
seen this before?
