What does modprobe usb-storage shows?. When I load the module, I then
ask like this:
root at mario:~# lsmod | grep usb
usb_storage 64064 0
.....some other modules
This shows usb_storage as a loaded module, necessary for you, say,
thumb drive or your camera.
