Can't stop Screen blanking

i have the same problem. i have an ibm-G96 monitor and every so often if
im not ussing the system the screen will go blank. at first i thought
maybe it was my graphics card (ati radeon 9200 pci) but it happened a
few min ago when i was listing to music and the screen whent blank but
the music cept playing so i hit (ctrl  + alt + backspace and got to the
gdm log on screen and image came back. i'm trying to figure if it my ati
card diying or is it something like this person is discribing.

please help me out with this.

hp pavilion 553x

IBM-G96 Monitor

ATI Radeon 9200

GPU on it is RV280

the bus id for the ati is 1:11:0
