can i access this mailing list as a newsgroup.

i remember some saying something about using a newsgroup reader for 
using mailing list.
i am using thunderbird at the moment combined with a gmail account but 
the volume of mail
is annoying me too.
is there any way to keep the current functionality of this mailing list 
without cluttering up my email account
aside from forming a new email account
